Scots Family is an ancestor exploration service for people who want to both find and understand their  family roots in Scotland.

Scots Family began its operations as Scot Roots in central Scotland in the village of Menstrie nestling at the foot of the Ochil Hills, in the county of Clackmannanshire. Its old motto is look aboot ye. Visitors to the smallest county in Scotland with the longest name find its history and scenery well worth ..................

The Scots Family professional research team is led by Dr Brian Thomson, an experienced genealogist with over 25 years of researching Scottish local history. As well as a wide knowledge of Scotland, Dr Thomson has travelled in the Pacific, New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Africa and throughout Europe. His own ancestry is predominantly Scot, particularly from Shetland and Orkney islands, with a peppering of Canadian, Irish, German, and English genes.  Member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and the Scottish Genealogy Society,  Brian was commissioned for historical research  by TV Channel 4's "Revealing Secrets". He has researched the Scottish family history of David Tennant ("Dr Who")  and other celebrities for  BBC 's "Who Do You Think You Are ?", and appeared on STV's "The Hour" on Scottish house history research . In 2011, the Scots Family research team assisted Lion Television in tracing family descendants from the Tay Bridge disaster, the Titanic, and First World War deserters "Shot at Dawn".
